What Can Romance Authors Learn from Heated Rivalry?

If you're not yet watching the gay hockey romance, Heated Rivalry, on HBO, run don't walk to get started. I'm not just saying that because it's what everyone is talking about. I'm saying it because girl, it really is that good! I’m willing to bet the most-googled question this week isn’t “last minute Christmas ideas” but “Was Heated Rivalry renewed for Season 2?” (Spoiler alert: it was!)

As an author and an editor, when I see something this good, my brain always starts whirling like, "What SECRETLY made this so great?" And um, yeah, how can my books do it too?
